Surfing in Porthtowan gallery
Surfing in Porthtowan has long been a favourite pastime amongst locals and visitors alike. The large winter swells attract experienced surfers whilst the more gentle summer surf usually keeps sunseekers, surfers and bodyboarders happy from sunrise till sunset. There are plenty of rock pools for the little ones to explore as well.
There are two surfing business's in the village:
Porthtowan Surf School with 12 years experience offer professional tuition by qualified surf coaches all year, from the beach. Situated adjacent to the Unicorn Inn, next to the children’s play area and yards from the beach. Porthtowan Surf School also offer hire of wetsuits and surfboards, with a free delivery and pick up service within the area.
The other surf shop/school is Tris Surf Shop (01209 890990) is positioned a few yards from the beach and will offer lessons, hire out surfboards, body boards and wetsuits as well as selling clothing, surf wax and accessories.
When you are at the beach we would encourage all beach users to follow RNLI safety precautions as the ocean can be very unpredictable.
Your lodge at Rosehill has an out door lock-up that will accommodate approx three surfboards up to 7' 4" long. Longboards can be placed under most lodges.
