5 Star Gold Backround
In 2008 Rosehill was one of the first self catering holiday business’s to combine both a Gold award in the Green Tourism Business Scheme as well as the 5 Star Gold Award under VisitBritains Quality Assurance Scheme. This combines luxury and green. Very much a first at the time.
The GTBS is the only recognised sustainability assessment scheme in the UK and Ireland and is endorsed by Visit England, Visit Scotland and Visit Wales. Fundamentally it is the only tangible award that recognises and formally assesses best practise for green sustainability within the tourism industry. The assessment is rigorous and comprehensive and encompasses all aspects of green sustainability.
At the end of 2010 we were again assessed by the GTBS and again were awarded Gold. There are now over 2300 members/business’s within the GTBS scheme throughout the UK and Ireland of which around 400 have acheived the Gold Award. The GTBS shortlisted 40 of their members who had acheived the highest assessment rating. Of these 40, 20 GTBS members were selected and put forward as finalists for the Goldstar Award.

Why have we been recognised?
Here at Rosehill Lodges we see our business and our environment and everything that lives within it as one and the same thing. There is no seperation between us and our environment. We do everything we can to minimise our negative impact on our environment.
For green holidays in Cornwall we believe we can offer you the perfect choice. Eco holiday lodges with quality and attention-to-detail as standard. Our proactive and positive commitment to environmental sustainability dovetails with this attention-to-detail. We believe that quality and luxury can live side by side with a care for our environment.
To compliment our incredible environment, each lodge incorporates a whole raft of green eco friendly features. Very high insulant levels throughout, log burners, grass roofs, solar water heating and full recycling facilities including composting. The lodges were all built locally within our small village here in Cornwall. They were not supplied from overseas.
We look forward to welcoming you to our Eco-Friendly luxury Lodges. Here are just some of the reasons we have been recognised. Please take a look at all our green pages for a more comprehensive overview.
Energy efficiency
As well as looking fantastic, the grass roofs on the lodges keep them warm in winter and cool in summer. The lodges are insulated to an extremely high level, using materials such as recycled newspaper and lava rock.
Each lodge has a biomass log burner for space heating, solar water panels and, of course, low-energy light bulbs.
Building materials from sustainable sources
All the materials we used to construct the lodges have come from sustainable sources.
The floors are made from bamboo, the fastest-growing woody plant on earth, making them highly sustainable.
Recycling
Comprehensive recycling facilties are provided to each lodge. These incorporate paper, tins, plastic, paper and cardboard. We encourage as much of the waste material from each lodge to be recycled including the composting of organic material.
We even built the lodges from recycled material, including the newspaper insulation we use in the cavity wall and the recycled glass mosaic tiles in the bathrooms.
Cornish, through and through
Rather than shipping materials half-way around the world, we felt it was better to buy local wherever we could.
The cladding on all the lodges is made of Cornish larch, which was personally chosen from a sustainable forest here in Cornwall.
The lodges were hand built locally here within the village of Porthtowan by dedicated and skilled craftsmen.
All our employees live in the village and walk to work.
Cornwall Wildlife Trust
Rosehill is a business supporter of the Cornwall Wildlife Trust and works with the trust directly offering local walk pamphlets which are sold for a small fee. The proceeds go to the trust as do any small phone charges which are also donated to the trust via the charity box.
