As the official start host port for the Tall Ships’ Races Magellan-Elcano, Falmouth will welcome beautiful tall ships from around the world to arrive for four days of festivities including a Parade of Sail before the Race start
Tuesday 15th – Friday 18th August 2023. The tall ships are back in Falmouth! For the first time in nine years, Falmouth will once again host the start of the prestigious Tall Ships Races Magellan Elcano, Falmouth.
The Tall Ships Races Magellan-Elcano will see the Tall Ships fleet take in the Channel and Iberian Peninsula in 2023. Following on from the Tall Ships Races 2023, the race series will visit Falmouth (15-18 August) and follow a course to A Coruna (24-27 August), Lisbon (31 August-3 September), and Cadiz (7-10 September).
The Tall Ships Races Magellan Elcano series will celebrate the first circumnavigation of the world by Ferdinand Magellan and Sebastián Elcano over 500 years ago. The landmark expedition is one of the most important journeys undertaken in the history of maritime navigation and epitomises the unique and impactful experience of The Tall Ships Races.
The variety of festivities, attractions and crew activities during Europe’s largest, free, family festival, are sure to make the event a truly unforgettable experience.
The Tall Ships Races always provide the perfect opportunity to take part in some great sailing and embark on the adventure of a lifetime at sea. They bring together people of different nationalities, religions and cultures and visit a range of ports around Europe, promoting international friendship and understanding.
FALMOUTH, UK
Falmouth will join Host Ports A Coruña, Lisbon and Cadiz in hosting the race series along the Iberian Peninsula. A long-term friend of Sail Training International’s Races and Regattas, the start port will once again welcome the Tall Ships fleet as they prepare for Race One south to A Coruña, Spain, on 18 August.
Visitors will have the opportunity to board some of the historic tall ships as they will be sited within the A&P Falmouth Docks. Tickets to access these ships will go on sale nearer the time and will be priced at £5.00 for adults and £2.50 children
